The Russian Revolution began in 1905 When the procession of workers reached the Winter Palace in St Petersburg, it was attacked by the police and the Cossacks. Over 100 workers were killed and some 300 wounded.This incident, known as Bloody Sunday (Spartacus Educational). The Orthodox priest, Georgi Gapon known for the formation of the Assembly of Russian Workers (Industrial workers and middle class).The first World War had set back the Russians causing shortages of food and famine spread through the cities. The February Revolution in 1917 began the riots on the streets for food and anger towards the chaos of the government. While the lack of success during the war, the economy was hopelessly disrupted by the debt, and moderates joined Russian radical elements in calling for the overthrow of the czar (Russian Revolution).
